GMAT OG 2018 Analysis

Project Description

The Official Guides for GMAT Review (GMAT OG) contain retired real GMAT questions, and must be a part of your GMAT Prep. The books are among few sources to access the REAL GMAT Questions.   The books have questions arranged according to the increasing difficulty level – according to the GMAC.

The GMAT OG 2018 contains 957 total questions (including Integrated Reasoning) of which 130 are new. These are new questions that you have not encountered before; they are not questions recycled from older GMAC resources.

The 100 questions in the diagnostic test have not changed from the last edition of 2017. Most probably, the GMAC is not moving out these questions as they are good questions to practice.

Problem Solving (PS)

The total number of PS questions (254 including the 24 from Diagnostic test) remain the same as last year. The GMAC has added 35 new questions and dropped 35 old questions. You will find multiple problems that need some estimation to solve the question fast (look at Q#40 and #53). According to GMAC there are 96 Easy, 59 Medium, and 99 Hard problems. It is possible that you don’t agree with this categorisation just as us.

Here’s a list of the 35 new Problem Solving questions:
3, 5, 6, 16, 22, 23, 24, 26, 33, 34, 40, 42, 50, 53, 55, 60, 68, 69, 72, 79, 81, 85, 90, 96, 98, 104, 122, 125, 139, 140, 151, 173, 201, 224, 229

Data Sufficiency (DS)

The total number of DS questions (198 including the 24 from Diagnostic test) remain the same as last year. The GMAC has added 26 new questions and dropped 26 old questions. You will find multiple new problems that can be better solved by picking the right  numbers. (look at Q#273, #278, #293, and #334). Questions #326, #339, and #382 will give you a taste of the way GMAC tests your math logic. According to GMAC there are 58 Easy, 57 Medium, and 83 Hard problems. It is possible that you don’t agree with this categorisation just as us.

Here’s a list of the 26 new Data Sufficiency questions:
233, 258, 260, 262, 266, 267, 273, 274, 276, 277, 278, 282, 284, 287, 288, 292, 293, 300, 306, 313, 326, 334, 339, 376, 382, 391

Reding Comprehension (RC)

The total number of DS questions (156 including the 17 from Diagnostic test) remain the same as last year. The GMAC has added 21 new questions and dropped 21 old questions. However, the GMAC added 6 new passages (2 business-based and 4 science-based) and removed only 4. Two of the 4 science passages are more complex in terms of context/vocabulary – the one about types of cacti and the other about conodonts. The GMAC has increased the difficulty level of the passages in this edition. A good thing for most of the students, we think. According to GMAC there are 55 Easy, 74 Medium, and 27 Hard problems. It is possible that you don’t agree with this categorisation just as us.

Here’s a list of the 21 new Reading Comprehension questions: 412 to 418, 439 to 441, 467 to 470, 514 to 516, 537 to 540

Critical Reasoning (CR)

The total number of DS questions (141 including the 17 from Diagnostic test) remain the same as last year. The GMAC has added 19 new questions and dropped 19 old questions. There are several interesting, harder questions—and some very good lessons to learn from the new problems. The new questions will make CR learning even more interesting. According to GMAC there are 41 Easy, 44 Medium, and 56 Hard problems. It is possible that you don’t agree with this categorisation just as us.

Here’s a list of the 19 new Critical Reasoning questions:
546, 550, 554, 556, 561, 575, 589, 599, 626, 627, 631, 634, 635, 640, 643, 651, 656, 660, 661

Sentence Correction (SC)

The total number of DS questions (158 including the 18 from Diagnostic test) remain the same as last year. The GMAC has added 21 new questions and dropped 21 old questions. According to the new questions, the topics are more important than others will be – meaning, modifiers snd sentence structure.   The new questions will make CR learning even more interesting. According to GMAC there are 36 Easy, 49 Medium, and 73 Hard problems. It is possible that you don’t agree with this categorisation just as us.

Here’s a list of the 21 new Sentence Correction questions:
674, 680, 684, 685, 699, 702, 717, 735, 743, 745, 750, 751, 763, 770, 777, 780, 781, 782, 784, 796, 799

P.S: We’ve heard that there are plans to release a future product with a focus on higher-level / harder Quant questions. However, we don’t have an actual release date for you.
