The 4.0-scale figure is a simple proportional estimate. US universities often rely on credential evaluators such as WES, whose grade-by-grade method can give a different result.
Which formula should I use?
CBSE multiplies CGPA by 9.5, and many universities follow the same rule. AICTE recommends (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 for its approved institutions. If your university prints its own conversion on the transcript or degree certificate, use that when you apply.
